Survey questionnaires
Language Resources
(LRs) are the basic elements necessary
for the development of Human Language Technology (HLT) systems and
tools and are also used to assess and evaluate such technologies.
Examples of Language Resources are speech databases, monolingual and
multilingual lexica and monolingual or multilingual corpora,
specialized dictionaries, etc.
The issue of HLT based on Arabic language is now getting prominent; the
lack, on the one hand, of language resources, and, on the other hand,
of real-world applications, highlights the need for improving R&D
in this area and for promoting the use of HLT among the potential
partners, in particular to safeguard some of the cultural heritages of
this geographical area. In many areas and business sectors, large
companies produce their own resources for the languages for which some
business can be made, and often no resources are built for the less
“lucrative” languages. In the framework of the Nemlar project and in
order to have an overview of the key strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats to the development of Arabic and other LRs in
the related region and establish a set of key priorities for developing
LRs, we are carrying out a survey to collect information about the
existing institutions and LRs of the Arabic world, and to describe the
needs for such language resources.
If you wish to contribute to the work of the NEMLAR project you may
fill in the survey questionnaire about your language resources and/or
the industry needs for language resources: you will find the two survey
questionnaires on this pages:
